Fall 2023 President's Letter

Dear NERVES Members,

John Moeller PhotoI hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday. Currently, it is a dreary 35 degrees and raining in Indianapolis, so I am playing Charlie Brown Christmas for a little holiday pick me up!

Your NERVES Board of Directors and Committees have been busy in recent months. I hope you had a chance to attend our NERVES Virtual Mini-Conference in November, where participants enjoyed three hours of solid information including financial trends, physician engagement, and roundtable discussions. If you missed it, don't worry; you can find the recording on the website under Events/Webinar Archive. Thank you to our Education Chair, Galyn Damiani, and the entire Committee for putting this conference together!

I am also pleased to announce that the NERVES Mentorship Program has been launched! This program pairs new administrators with seasoned veterans within the organization’s membership. We currently have 16 pairs and will soon be looking for more! Let us know if you are interested in either role - mentee or mentor. Thank you, Antoine Curtis and Lindsey Sadler, for making this a reality!

I would also like to thank our partner, RosmanSearch, for sponsoring new members. They have graciously agreed to pay the first-year membership dues for new members! We have already added seven members thanks to this effort. Thank you RosmanSearch!

The Board of Directors has exciting news. We have changed the format of our Membership Committee to be more open and inclusive. Historically, we had one membership director per geographic region (North/Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and Southwest). The membership director had to live in that region to be eligible. Over the years, it was sometimes difficult to find an enthusiastic volunteer to serve a given region, while other regions had an abundance of interested members. We have changed our bylaws to retitle our four Regional Directors as Membership “Directors at Large” and have added a new position of Membership Chair who will lead them in doing the work of the Membership Committee.  We have also removed the requirement of geographic regions so that the Directors at Large can be from any region. These positions still reside on the board and now extend their responsibilities directly to the membership committee. Since, after all, NERVES’ job is to serve and grow its members, we feel this change will best serve our society. Thank you, Antoine, for driving this change.

I hope you had a chance to submit your data for the NERVES Socio-Economic Survey. We recognize completing the survey is time consuming, but it is vitally important for our society. The results will be published in the coming months. The report is free to those who participated and can be purchased by anyone (inside or outside of NERVES). I am pleased to report that an early tally shows that our participation has improved from last year, but it is still behind previous years. Please participate in future surveys - our data is only as good as the respondents - and more participation makes better data sets.

Finally, I want to thank our Annual Meeting Committee which has been meeting every month to create our next in person meeting in Chicago on May 1-3, 2024. Please mark your calendars today. Every year, the meeting attendee survey highlights the importance of spending time with other NERVES members. These friendships pay huge dividends throughout the year as we try to succeed in this crazy healthcare environment. So, this year, in addition to our fabulous speakers, the committee has allotted time for customized group excursions around Chicago. We hope this informal and fun time will enhance the members’ ability to meet and connect with new members!

If you have not already paid your 2023-2024 dues, we hope you’ll complete that today. On behalf of the NERVES Board of Directors, we thank you for entrusting our organization with your professional networking and education. Thank you for your support and membership.

Please reach out to us with any questions or membership needs you may have throughout the year at [email protected].

Sincerely,

John Moeller
2023-2024 NERVES President
