Winter 2022 President's Letter

Dear NERVES Members:

I am so pleased to report that our first Building the Best: The Future of Spine Care & the Development of Centers of Excellence conference on September 22-23 in Chicago was phenomenal! Everyone who attended learned detailed nuts and bolts information about spine center and ERAS planning, operations, multidisciplinary team approaches, marketing, cost measurement, insurer perspectives, and the future of spine care. We all returned to our workplaces with a tremendous amount of new information and ideas that will improve spine care for patients across the country.  Hats off to the NERVES members who planned this event and the exhibitors and speakers who supported it. It was a true success story!

Right about now, you should have completed your annual NERVES survey responses (or are completing them now – depending on the exact date of this publication).   Please, please, please participate in the annual NERVES survey – our data is only as good as the respondents—and more participation makes better data sets. “To connect neurosurgery executives to resources, education and data to enhance value for the business of neurosurgery” is our mission and the survey is instrumental.  We recognized a gap in industry survey data for neurointerventionalists, so we partnered with SNIS, the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery, to create a new survey this year.  If you have neurointerventional MDs, please be sure to fill out both the NERVES survey and the joint NERVES/SNIS survey this year.  We are hopeful this information will help you with this subspecialty productivity, salary and call benchmarks.

Get ready for sunny California!! Our NERVES annual member meeting will be held in-person in Marina del Rey, CA on April 19-21, 2023 at the Marina del Rey Marriott hotel. Whether it’s Hotel California (The Eagles), California Girls (The Beach Boys), the other California Gurls (Katy Perry), Going Back To Cali (the Notorious B.I.G.), or the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme Song (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince), everyone finds something to love in California, right?

The Annual Meeting Committee is already hard at work planning the speakers, topics and schedule for you at Marina del Rey.  We know the end result will be an amazing meeting with support from our vendor partners, education from our expert guest speakers, and stimulating break-out sessions.  We will have informative roundtables, essential survey trends, actionable Washington updates, coding updates, culture and engagement, economics and more nuts and bolts for our practices and business challenges. Mark your calendar now and plan to attend. We are a fun society too, so “come one and all!” and enjoy the camaraderie.

Be sure to read our full e-newsletters for all the latest information, and visit the NERVES website regularly.  Log in to see all the Member-only content. Take a minute to update your member profile, including your work cell phone #, so we can reach each other to network.  And check out the upcoming educational webinar schedule, as well as the webinar archives on our website.  Don’t forget about the NERVES list-serve where our members talk to each other almost every day. Be a part of the conversations.

To each of you, I am wishing a wonderful winter season full of joy and kindness with family and friends. Thank you for being a part of NERVES and contributing your talents as committee members, liaisons, board members, officers, vendors, presenters, and for being creative, hard-working, business-savvy  human beings.

Sincerely,
Donna Bailer
