***UPDATE 3/13/2020

Yesterday, our NERVES office distributed an updated statement sharing that we had learned our headquarter hotel, the Boston Marriott Long Wharf, had closed. Since then, we have been in contact with the hotel and understand this to be a voluntary closure for 14 days as they work collaboratively with the Boston Health Department. Today, we learned the AANS has officially cancelled their Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston.

Given the current state of affairs and all the latest information we have available to us, the NERVES Executive Committee has made the decision to explore opportunities to postpone our Annual Meeting to a rescheduled date.

In the coming weeks, we will take the time to evaluate the best possible scenarios for hosting our Annual Meeting in 2020 and we ask your patience in allowing our offices the time needed to rearrange this. Once a decision has been made, we will communicate the new dates to the membership, sponsors and speakers, or alternatively cancel this year's meeting. For those who have registered for the conference already, we will work with you once we know more to either move the registration over to the new dates or we will be able to refund you using our cancellation policy. Again, we ask and thank you for your patience.

Many thanks to our conference committee who has worked diligently to place fantastic content and speakers and while we are saddened we will not meet in April as planned, the health, safety and well-being of our members, speakers, and exhibitors is of the greatest priority - we look forward to working on an alternative and gathering our membership together later this year.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our NERVES Administrator, Melissa Klingberg, and our staff at the NERVES office as they have done an amazing job for us during this unexpected situation.

We will continue to communicate on a regular basis to keep you apprised.

We understand many of you have concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19). We want to be as transparent as possible and share information about how we are following developments relating to the coronavirus and what we are doing to prepare for our upcoming meeting in Boston.

First, our NERVES Annual Meeting is currently scheduled to proceed April 23-25, 2020 in Boston, MA. To date, the U.S. government, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), has not issued any restrictions on conducting or participating in large events in the United States.

We also want to stress that this is an extremely fluid situation and NERVES will continue to actively monitor it and take actions as warranted.

Situation Monitoring

  • NERVES is committed to hosting a safe and successful conference. Our top priority is the health and safety of all participants, including attendees, sponsors/exhibitors, staff, and others involved in the conference.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has publicly deemed the health risk of coronavirus for the general American public to be low at this time.
  • NERVES is actively monitoring CDC and HHS updates for further information.
  • NERVES staff is working closely with our hotel partner, Marriott Boston Long Wharf, local Boston authorities, as well as AANS to evaluate the situation and implement best practices.

We are committed to making the 2020 NERVES Annual Meeting a safe, healthy and successful event. We will continue to keep you apprised as developments relating to the coronavirus occur. If you have any questions about the upcoming event, please contact us at [email protected].

***UPDATE 3/12/2020

As you are aware, the coronavirus continues to change daily, even hourly. NERVES leadership has been monitoring the status and its potential impact on our Annual Meeting.

We have been in communication with representatives of the Boston Marriott Long Wharf Hotel. The hotel informed us that in the last week of February they hosted a Biogen management conference and multiple attendees have now tested positive for the coronavirus. Today, we learned that the Hotel and the Boston Public Health Commission made the mutual decision to close the hotel, effective immediately.

We have no further information at this time, but will work with staff on next steps. As we receive more information it will be provided to NERVES membership at that time.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.
